Herbal medicine

Robert uses two systems of herbal medicine: traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and Pekana, a European system from Germany. He holds a master’s degree in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

In his experience, herbal medicine and acupuncture work well together. Acupuncture works during your visit; your remedies keep supporting your body between visits, which can help deeper healing.

Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese herbal medicine rarely uses a single herb. A formula combines several herbs that balance and strengthen one another.

Robert often prescribes a custom herbal program. It is designed both to strengthen and balance your body and to address your current symptoms, based on the same pulse and pattern assessment he uses for acupuncture. As your symptoms change, he adjusts the formula.

European remedies from Pekana

Pekana has made natural remedies in Kisslegg, in southern Germany, since the 1980s. Its remedies are made from medicinal plants using a traditional European method called spagyric preparation, and are sold in the US as homeopathic medicines. Most combine several ingredients in one remedy.

Robert chooses Pekana remedies to suit your pattern, on their own or alongside a Chinese formula.

Quality and safety

Robert uses high-quality preparations from trusted suppliers.

Tell Robert about any medications or supplements you take, and if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding. Some herbs don’t mix well with some medications, and he will choose your remedies with that in mind.

Herbal medicine works alongside your medical care. It doesn’t replace it.

Often used alongside herbal medicine

  • Japanese acupuncture: very fine needles and gentle contact, in the Toyohari style.
  • Moxibustion: gentle warmth from aged mugwort, applied near specific points.
  • Flower essences: a gentle branch of herbal medicine, blended for stress and emotional imbalances.
