Acupuncture for ankle sprains
Help with fresh sprains and with ankles that stay sore or weak after repeated injury.
Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries. They happen in many kinds of sports and in everyday life, from a misstep on a trail to a bad landing on the court.
A sprain is a stretch or tear of the ligaments that support the ankle. Once an ankle has been sprained, it can stay weak and become prone to more sprains and strains.
If you can’t put weight on your ankle, or the pain is severe, see a doctor first to rule out a fracture.
Recent sprains
Acupuncture can help with a fresh ankle sprain. Many patients find that a series of five to ten sessions helps reduce pain and swelling and supports a quicker recovery. The goal is to get you back to running, hiking and your normal activities.
Robert practices Toyohari, a Japanese style of acupuncture that uses very fine needles and gentle contact.
Ongoing ankle pain
A series of acupuncture sessions can also help with chronic ankle pain. This kind of pain may come from repeated injury over the years or from arthritis in the joint. For more on joint wear, see osteoarthritis.
For other injuries from running, hiking and sports, see sports injuries and plantar fasciitis and foot pain.
