Acupuncture for peripheral neuropathy
Easing burning, stabbing or tingling nerve pain in the hands and feet, alongside medical care.
Peripheral neuropathy is a painful condition caused by damage to, and inflammation of, the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord.
There are many possible causes. Some of the most common are diabetes, autoimmune disease and side effects of certain medications.
Neuropathy usually affects the hands, the feet or both. People often describe a burning or stabbing sensation. The pain can be severe, and it sometimes comes with tingling.
How acupuncture can help
Many patients find that acupuncture helps ease neuropathy pain. It can be a helpful addition to conventional medical treatment, not a replacement for it. If your neuropathy is related to diabetes, keep working with your doctor on managing it.
Many patients notice the pain lessen over a course of five to ten acupuncture treatments.
