Acupuncture for fatigue

Rebuilding energy and stamina when stress, overwork, poor sleep or illness has left you drained.

Fatigue and exhaustion are common reasons people come to see Robert. Sometimes the tiredness is recent. Sometimes it has gone on for months.

Common causes

Fatigue can come from stress, overwork or overtraining in sports and workouts. It can also come from lack of sleep or from an imbalance in the adrenal or thyroid glands.

In some cases, a lingering viral illness may be part of the picture. Examples include Epstein-Barr virus or the drained feeling that can follow a virus, sometimes called post-viral fatigue.

Because fatigue has so many possible causes, it’s wise to see your doctor to check for medical causes as well.

How Robert treats fatigue

In Chinese medicine, fatigue is often described as a Qi or Yang deficiency pattern. Robert combines acupuncture, herbal medicine and moxibustion to strengthen the Qi and Yang.

Moxibustion is a warming therapy. It involves burning tiny, sesame-seed-sized amounts of mugwort on specific acupuncture points.

Many patients notice better energy and physical stamina within three to five sessions.

Poor sleep and stress often feed fatigue. You may also want to read about insomnia and stress and relaxation.
