Acupuncture for insomnia

Help with trouble falling asleep, waking at night or never quite sleeping deeply.

Insomnia and disturbed sleep have become common in busy urban life. Stress and anxiety at work and at home can interrupt sleep, and your health can suffer without good-quality rest.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help improve sleep, with a gentle approach that many patients appreciate.

Sleep patterns in Toyohari

Toyohari is the Japanese style of acupuncture Robert practices. It recognizes several common patterns linked with insomnia, depending on the symptoms:

  • Liver pattern: In the Liver deficiency pattern, sleep is restless, with tossing, turning and waking through the night. In the Liver excess pattern, a person may be unable to sleep at all. The Heart Fire pattern is also agitated and disturbed, with little sleep.
  • Spleen pattern: Sleep is less restless. The main problems are trouble falling asleep and trouble waking up in the morning.
  • Kidney deficiency pattern: A person never quite drops into deep sleep and rests near the surface all night. Fearful dreams and waking early in the morning are also common.
  • Lung deficiency pattern: A person feels sleepy during the day, but not so much at night.

Do you recognize yourself in any of these patterns?

How Robert treats insomnia

Deep, restful sleep is central to good health and well-being. Robert treats the underlying pattern with acupuncture and often adds herbal support, such as a custom Chinese herbal formula. Many patients with insomnia find their sleep improves over a course of treatment.

Poor sleep often goes hand in hand with worry and stress. You may also want to read about anxiety and stress and relaxation.
